Good Goose

ARE YOU, OR IS SOMEONE YOU KNOW, A GOOSE?

A simple message for anyone who loves an autistic person, from autistic people.

Autistic people aren’t broken. They aren’t missing pieces. They aren’t tragedies. They’re good geese: whole, real, and worth understanding. Autistic people are fully human, just as a duck is fully a duck and a goose is fully a goose. Yes, even the non‑speaking geese who only honk.

If you have an autistic person in your life, you don’t need fear, crisis talk, or miracle cures. You need a way to understand them that actually works.

Autistic people have patterns, logic, needs, strengths, and futures. When you learn their way of being, everything gets easier.

APC is an autistic‑led organization. We help families, friends, teachers, neighbors, and caregivers understand autistic people in clear, practical ways.

What we teach is simple:

less fear

less confusion

less isolation

more clarity

more support

more connection

Your autistic person is not a broken duck.

They are a good goose.

Honking is communication. Honking is real. Honking counts.

Good geese learn, grow, communicate, and thrive when the world makes room for them.

If you’re overwhelmed, confused, or unsure what to do next, you’re not alone.

If you’ve heard crisis stories or cure stories and don’t know what to believe, you’re not alone.

If you want a calmer, clearer way to understand autism, you’re in the right place.

You don’t need a cure.

You don’t need a miracle.

You don’t need a fight.

You need autistic‑led resources.

APC can give you those resources from autistic adults that include:

how autistic communication works

how to reduce daily stress

how to support higher support needs

how to understand behaviors without fear

how to build a life that actually functions

We also know that the world around us isn’t built to meet autistic people’s needs.

We are working to change that by empowering, amplifying, and centering autistic people.

If you would like to join us, we hope you will stick around and explore our website to learn more.

Your goose is good. And you’re doing your best to support them. Let’s build something that works.

Is this goose and duck metaphor an oversimplification? Yes, but we hope it still illustrates our point.

Autism is complex, and the issues facing autistic people and those who love us are even more complex. The duck and goose metaphor will probably rub some people the wrong way, but the point still matters. Autism is hard to talk about without strong emotions, yet the core message is simple: autistic people are fully human, just as a duck is fully a duck and a goose is fully a goose. We are not saying autism is not a disability, and we are not saying it is a superpower. We are saying that our neurodiversity is one of the many beautiful diversities of human experience. We are not fighting autism. We are fighting for autistic people. When people talk about fighting or eradicating autism, that cannot happen without fighting or eradicating autistic people. That is why autistic people must be the authorities and leaders on our own lives. We should be included in every conversation about autism, and we should be the ones leading those conversations. Too often we are not, because we are not even allowed in the room. Many of us are not only autistic but also caretakers, spouses, and parents of autistic people. And like you, we would not change our loved ones for the world, but we would change the world for our loved ones.

Would you like to help us amplify this message from autistic adults and support our programs that are created by autistic adults for our whole city? When we empower autistic people, we empower everyone. Our merch lets you carry this message forward while helping us fund autistic‑led education, community support, and public programs.

Thank you so much for listening to us. If listening is all you do, it still matters. Approaching autistic voices with an open heart and mind, and genuinely considering what we say about our own lived experience, is all we are asking for. Your willingness to hear us is already a form of support.
